MULTI-TWOS

RESPONSE TO 2D in MULTI TWOS

RESPONSE TO OPENERS 2D BID

  • 2H - If you are not interested in a game (weak - less than 12 HCPs) or only in a game with spades 
  • 2S - If you are interested (12-14 HCPs ) in a game in hearts, provided your partner has 6 hearts
  • 2NT - If you are strong (15+ HCP) and think there is a possibility of a game somewhere 

NOTE: All responses need to alerted


OPENERS RESPONSES

PARTNER RESPONDED 2H (pass or correct)

  • Pass - if opener is weak with 6 hearts
  • 2S - if weak with 6 spades (partner will raise if has support for spades)
  • 2NT - if strong 20-22 HCPs and balanced (Stayman and transfers apply)


PARTNER RESPONDED 2S (pass or correct)

  • Pass - if opener is weak with 6 spades 
  • 3H - if originally weak with 6 hearts, and is still 6-8 TPs
  • 4H -  if originally weak with 6 hearts, and now >=9 TPs
  • 2NT - if strong 20-22 HCPs and balanced (Stayman and transfers apply)


1. PARTNER RESPONDED 2NT (Lisa)

opener weak with 6 hearts

  • 3C (alert) with 6 hearts 6-8 HCPs (partner must rebid - 3H/4H)
  • 3H (alert) with 6 hearts and 9 or 10 HCPs (pass or raise)

opener weak with 6 spades

  • 3D (alert) with 6 spades and 6-8 HCPs (partner must rebid - 3S/4S)
  • 3S (alert) with 6 spades and 9 or 10 HCPs (pass or raise)

opener strong (21-22 HCPs)

  • 3NT (alert) - partner looks for slam


Lisa goes low to change suit and high to shut out. Most go the other way as below.


2. PARTNER RESPONDED 2NT (Sharon)

opener weak with 6 hearts

  • 3C (alert) with 6 hearts 8-10 HCPs (partner must rebid - 3H/4H/3NT)
  • 3H (alert) with 6 hearts and 6 or 7 HCPs (pass or raise if 19+ points)

opener weak with 6 spades

  • 3D (alert) with 6 spades and 8-10 HCPs (partner must rebid - 3S/4S)
  • 3S (alert) with 6 spades and 6 or 7 HCPs (pass or raise if 19+ points)

opener strong (21-22 HCPs)

  • 3NT (alert) - partner looks for slam

RESPONSE TO 2H/S in MULTI TWOS

RESPONSE TO OPENERS 2H BID

WITH SUPPORT FOR HEARTS:

  • Pass - weak no interest in game
  • 3H - if 10 plus points (invitational or to compete)
  • 4H - 19+ TP

WITH NO SUPPORT FOR HEARTS

  • 2S - weak, pass if your other suit is spades, otherwise correct (alert)
  • 2NT - 15-16 HCPs, bid your other suit as we should be in game (alert)

RESPONSE TO OPENERS 2S BID

WITH SUPPORT FOR SPADES

  • Pass - weak no interest in game
  • 3S - invitational or to compete
  • 4S - 19+ TP

WITH NO SUPPORT FOR SPADES

  • 3C - weak, pass if your other suit is clubs, otherwise correct (alert)
  • 2NT - 15-16 HCPs, bid your other suit as we should be in game (alert)

MULTI TWOS

AN OPENING 2D BID MEANS:

  • weak (6-10 HCP) with 6 hearts (replaces opening 2H bid)
  • weak (6-10 HCP) with 6 spades (replaces opening 2S bid)
  • strong (20-22 HCP balanced (replaces opening 2NT)

RESPONSE TO 2D

AN OPENING 2H BID MEANS:

  • 5 hearts and 5 of any other suit and 6-10 HCPs (do not open if both suits are lousy)

RESPONSE TO 2H

AN OPENING 2S BID MEANS:

  •  5 spades and 5 of a minor and 6-10 HCPs (do not open if both suits are lousy)

RESPONSE TO 2S

BIDDING IN MULTI-TWOs MEANS:

  • no need to use Michael's Cue bid or Unusual 2NTs
  • can bid weak 2's in the first seat
  • have to go to 3 level to pre-empt in diamonds
